The Language Club has significant experience in the area of teaching Portuguese as a foreign language. All teachers are native speakers and they all have or are taking a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese or related areas. Most teachers have had experience in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language overseas. Some of the countries our teachers have taught are: France, the U.S.A and Uruguay. All teachers have successfully accomplished an extensive preparation course and all of them frequently attend and prepare seminars to update, extend their knowledge and their cross-cultural sensitivity.
The Pedagogical Coordinator has a post-graduate qualification in “Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language” from Pontificia Universidade Católica - Rio de Janeiro and has 13 years of experience in the field. She has represented the school in Conferences in Brazil and Uruguay.
The School Director
The school director, Martha Ghizzo, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Portuguese and English languages from UFSC, Federal University of Santa Catarina and in Business Administration from UDESC, State University of Santa Catarina. She also holds a Diploma Course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Reading University, UK, and a MBA qualification from University of South Florida, U.S. She has been running the school for 19 years.
Student Advisory Service
This happens in an informal but effective way at The Language Club. All secretary staff, coordinators and Portuguese teachers are willing to help students with whatever information they may need on sports, cultural activities, trips, courses, visa and medical issues and so on. Our Portuguese coordinator, Rosane Kath, will be in charge of pedagogical advice. This usually happens at the beginning and end of classes, but a specific meeting can be arranged if necessary.
